Mental Disorders
Many if not most modern disability insurance policies limit the payment of benefits for disabilities that are attributable to mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety and others. Normally, benefits are not precluded entirely, but are subject to a maximum payment period—typically 1 or 2 years.
Normally, Frank doesn’t handle disability claims based solely on mental impairments. That's true regardless of whether the duration of benefits is limited. However, the presence of cognitive and/or mental health symptoms is not uncommon among individuals with other types of medical disorders. For example, people with certain infections, neurological disorders, brain injuries or diseases, and other medical problems can experience significant cognitive dysfunction that can be objectively documented with proper testing.
Frank regularly handles claims involving secondary difficulties like these. He encourages people in this situation to contact him for a fuller discussion.
