Many hematologic, genitourinary, endocrine and other disorders can affect multiple body systems.  As previously noted, the degree of disability imposed by these disorders is generally determined by evaluating the dysfunction they cause with each of those systems.  

There are other disorders that also involve multiple body systems and are almost always disabling per se. These include Down’s syndrome; other congenital anomalies, chromosomal disorders, dysmorphic syndromes, and inborn metabolic syndromes; and perinatal infectious diseases. These disorders impose disability at birth. For that reason, they are rarely encountered on claims for disability insurance and are beyond the scope of this discussion.
